Donor Prizes Have Arrived!

Hi everyone,

We received a lot of new donations this week. To our new donors: welcome to the project! If you haven't already, please stop by our Methods section to read more about what we're planning and why it's important. Thanks to these new donations, we are now over 80% funded! If you haven't already, consider sharing our project with someone who you think might be interested in donating. Personal communications generally work the best, and every $5 donation counts!

What does involvement in this campaign mean for donors? Assuming we reach 100%, you will be connected to this project from start to finish. As required by Experiment.com, we will give everyone updates from the field, upload preliminary data, and give you access to results. We're participating here partially because we think Experiment’s goals are pretty noble: attempting to support science as a public good, seeking to increase transparency in research, and creating a stronger connection between the public and research. #SupportScience!

This Lab Note also serves as a reminder that a random selection of our donors will win awesome art prizes by Amy West. We were very excited to get these prizes in the mail today:

Just look at this adorable northern bobwhite pair!

Signed,

Jaime, Jane, and #TheBirds

P.S. Check out Amy's website if you want to look at more of her pieces, or are interested in ordering custom artwork.

About This Project

Though grasslands are increasingly scarce in the Midwest, there are pockets remaining on private lands grazed by cattle. Restoration thus requires balancing the needs of birds with the needs of landowners. To address this, we propose to research habitat quality for grassland birds in a working landscape. Using field data, we study grassland bird abundance, prey abundance, and nest site selection in response to invasive management and human decisions driving landscape changes.

Blast off!
