Halfway to the finish line...

Hey everyone,

I justed wanted to thank each of you again for your donations to this project. We're halfway throught he funding period, and we've already got 57% of the budget! Aside from the remaining funds, what we really need now are brewers who want to submit samples for analysis. A handful are already involved, but we need 21+ samples from as many diverse sources as possible. I'd appreciate it if you could help advertise the experiment on social media to try to attract brewers of sour, wild, and funky beers to join the cause.

About This Project

Mixed cultures create sour beers, but many brewers don't know which microbes are in their cultures. We will identify the species in 21 or more samples from pro/homebrewers using deep sequencing. We will also combine the cultures and follow the evolution of that population over the course of fermentation to determine which species are dominant. This work will highlight the similarities and differences between souring cultures, guiding the development of custom cultures for sour beer production.
