The Rhino Foobler makes the cover!

The paper about the rhino Foobler was accepted and came out earlier this month in the journal Animal Behavior and Cognition.  In addition to the publication, Boone and his Foobler were featured on the cover of the issue!

Animal Behavior and Cognition is an open access journal, so you can read the paper in its entirety here:  http://animalbehaviorandcognit...

We have not forgotten about our promise to host a backer's day at the zoo (with video updates for those who can't attend!) for you all to come visit and see the Fooblers in person, so keep an eye out for an update in the near future with dates and times for that!

As always, thank you all for making this possible.  From the campaign to the experiment to the write up, this has been an amazing (and often amusing) process.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity to conduct this research and to share the steps along the way with all of you.

About This Project

A Foobler is a toy that dispenses food when your pet plays with it. We want to build one for the San Francisco Zoo's rhinos.

Animals need to engage with the environment to maximize their psychological well-being. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this in zoos is to make animals 'work' for their food. We want to build a novel feeding system to engage our rhinos in more active foraging, and assess their behavioral responses.

Blast off!
