Hello leopard lovers!

We started this crowd funding page because of our mutual passion for the leopards of Sri-Lanka. We recognize that due to the lack of information on the status and numbers of leopards in key protected areas (largely due to a 30 year civil war), a number of camera-trap surveys will help fill in this knowledge gap.

Our work is modelled on previous studies (eg. http://www.sciencedirect.com/s...and http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com...) which have shown that through regular monitoring exercises one can evaluate the efficiency of conservation management actions (eg. curbing poaching, zoning areas, and habitat and prey protection).

About This Project

The Endangered Sri Lankan leopard is the second last remaining island leopard in the world. This unique sub species is threatened since Sri Lanka’s diminishing highly fragmented forest cover is its only refugium. Currently there is almost no information on how many leopards live in the island. This creates a strong need to assess its population. The Sri-Lankan Leopard Trust will carry out leopard population surveys in three of Sri Lanka's biggest National Parks: Yala, Wilpattu and Horton Plains
