We smashed it!

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not

-          The Lorax, Dr Seuss

I was just about to announce that we had reached 75% of our funding target of $1000. Then, all of a sudden... we smashed through the $1000 target!!! AMAZING!!

We CANNOT thank our backers enough at this point – we are SO grateful that people out there share our vision, and understand why we are doing this. Backers: you have become part of something very special and important. Not just personally important to us as researchers, but vitally important to the future of lemurs in Madagascar. This approach to species reintroduction has never been undertaken before. You are part of a big scientific leap!

The Lorax by Dr Seuss (first published 1971) is well worth a read, if you didn’t during your childhood. It’s a classic with a pretty elegant conservation message. The ‘Lorax’ is a creature who speaks for the trees (because they have no voice), and even a daunting dream of a project can turn into a reality if enough people set their mind to it.

I know it may seem small and insignificant, but it’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become

We need to keep the momentum going, and of course any money above our initial target of $1000 will be incredibly beneficial to the research. More funding means we can do everything better. Better building materials, better technology and more scope for expanding our sample of lemurs, which means that the project has more validity.

If you are reading this and would like to back the project, thank you for your consideration. If you have already backed the project, you are amazing.

Fay, on behalf of Team Lemur.

About This Project

Lemurs are in Trouble. They are the world’s most endangered vertebrates, and attempts to reintroduce captive-raised lemurs to the wild may be necessary within a decade. We will investigate whether lemurs born and raised in zoos have essential skills needed to survive in the wild by extracting food from a novel ‘False Fruit’ and navigating a complex 3D maze we call the ‘Tangled Tree’. Boot camp is tough and there’s no cheating allowed - they will receive no help or training on the tasks!

Blast off!
