FUNDED! (but wait, there's more!)

At 6:47PM Pacific Standard Time, on January 9th 2018, this project was fully funded. 61 backers gave an average of $66 dollars each in a third of the time needed for this campaign to be a success. This is so far above and beyond the expectations Roo and I had when we first conceived of this idea, and we owe it all to you! What a special wind this blows into the sails of fungal systematics and conservation. If we can generate this kind of interest to make our own projects possible, so can so many other, eminently worthy researchers.

With such an outpouring of support, the catapulting article from Chris Jobson at Colossal, and the amount of time still left on our campaign's countdown clock, it would be crazy not to use this momentum to make more science possible, so that's exactly what we plan to do. Stay tuned for the debut of our stretch goal to ramp up the sequencing effort to include more gene regions.

Endorsers, backers, sharers, journalists, well-wishers; everyone who helped make this moment possible in any way, no matter how small, we are awash with gratitude and excitement because of you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

About This Project

Of an estimated 3.2 million species of fungi, only some 120,000 are known to science. Most of the undescribed species reside in the tropics. In 2014, myself and a fellow mycologist, Roo Vandegrift, collected some 350 samples of fungi from Reserva Los Cedros; one of the last unlogged watersheds on the western slope of the Andes. We are now looking to begin the microscopic and molecular analysis portions of our research, with the goal of publishing on our findings.

Blast off!
