Project update: October 2024

We successfully delivered a new course, Metabarcoding for Microbial Ecology, with a strong turnout of 6 participants who ranged in age from middle school students to working professionals. We are just now getting the sequencing data from their experiments and are excited to see what microbes are in their samples.  This week, we also started the second iteration of our CRISPR course, with two new volunteer instructors bringing their creative and engaging spin to the curriculum we developed earlier this year. We are also on track to deliver a fourth new course in early 2025. This course will focus on biochemistry and biosynthesis.

About This Project

The traditional model for life sciences education fails to offer hands-on opportunities for diverse audiences. At SoundBio Lab, we believe that getting hands on with science in the lab builds sustained motivation and changes lives. We will develop and test a set of hands-on molecular biology courses offered in our community lab space. These courses require minimal specialized equipment and the curricula will be shared freely online so other community labs can benefit from the work.
