Who am I?

Hi, my name is Nicola and I am currently studying a MSc in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology. As you can see from my application I have a fond interest in Bees. I started working on bees in my final year of my undergraduate degree in 2018 and since being introduced to the fuzzy little creatures I have gone bee mad!

This year, as part of my masters project I decided to, again, work with, and learn more about bees. This project sets out to investigate the impacts of glyphosates on bumblebee productivity and parasitology, and I am so excited to start to say the least!

About This Project

The recent ban of neonicotinoids across Europe due to their impacts on the bee population has raised concern that other common garden products have similar impacts. We set out to investigate how glyphosates – herbicides, give rise to complications in bee health and their overall population numbers.

We hypothesise that bees exposed to glyphosates will experience increased vulnerability to parasitic infections, along with negative changes in foraging behaviour and foraging ability.

Blast off!
