Biosphere 2 During May 4th

Found the Gear, Moving, Presenting at BHTP + Analog Astronaut Conference

So I feel a bit sheepish... turns out that the algae ingredients were delivered to a neighbor. Luckily I got most everything back but my spirulina (shipped by the wonderful Dale Solomon from Oasia Farms) went bad.

He's going to be experimenting on a new freezing technique and sending me another package next week but for now there is a brief hiatus before launching the week-long test.

I'm also overjoyed to have packages from Ful, iWi, Nordic Naturals, Maine Coast Sea Vegetables, Seaweed Kings as well as biometric measurement tools from Biomesight, Levels and others.

My parents will be driving up some more gear next week + I'm continuing to order more things, preparing for the IRB and designing/testing different recipes. Very excited to begin!

I had the good fortune to present the initial experiment at Biohack the Planet in Austin, TX and at the Analog Astronaut Conference in Tucson, AZ at Biosphere 2 these past 2 weekends. The feedback was amazing + I had the chance to meet so many great people. One of the concepts that I'm going to incorporate is a fast prior to starting the experiment so that my gut microbiome reaches a standard resting point based on some audience discussion. I'm not sure how many days I'll need to fast, but if you have ideas, please let me know.

About This Project

This study examines the effects of consuming only algae as a dietary source for a month. The subject, a healthy individual will be monitored with blood tests conducted regularly to assess any changes in nutrient levels and overall health. The results may show that consuming only algae may provide sufficient nutrients for the body with potential positive or negative health effects. This study may find that an all algae diet can be a sustainable option for a world with climate change.
