Day 7 (part 2)-First Day at Lago Ditkebi-Try to Establish Coring Platform (incomplete due to bad weather) 第七日(第二部分）-在Lago Ditkebi的第一天，试图搭建钻芯平台但并没有搭建完成，因为天气太糟了！

Actually, it is nicer than I thought. 其实景色还不错哦，比我想象的好多啦

 

First of the first, we need to reassemble the coring platform by using wood pieces that are stored under the plastic tarp (Remember that? we have carefully measured and cut these wood pieces at UGA campus days ago). However, these pine wood are soft and not pretreated (by glue and high pressure), so they will deform several weeks later if they are exposed to very humid condition like this environment for days, and therefore, they can't be reused if we need to come back to this lake for further coring next year (we have to make new platform then).

首先，我们需要从塑料布下面取出木板来重新组装钻芯平台 （还记得吗，这些木板都在我们上山之前的几天，于UGA哥斯达黎加校园内仔细测量和切割好了的）。但是这些松木板又软又没有经过特定的处理（胶水+高压），所以他们会因为吸收了潮湿环境里的水汽（再晾干）几周后就变形到再也对不上那些孔洞，而不能重复使用。所以，如果我还需要明年回来采样，我们必须再做一个新的钻芯平台。

 

Secondly, inflate two air boats. These boats will be the base of the coring platform.

然后，给两个大的气船充气。这两只气船会被垫在木质钻芯平台下面。

 

Around 9 am, wind starts to get stronger (blows from east shore to west shore). I have to lie down on the two airboats to protect them from being blew away. But the plastic tarp is almost blew away....

大概早上九点，强风开始吹了。我不得不躺在气床上以避免他们被吹走，而塑料布已经几乎快被吹走了。

 

Platform then needs to be placed and tied tightly on the air boats. Also the coring rods, fixed on the one end of the platform, will be later carried to lake center together. These 10 coring rods can extend to 16 m and help us to get as long as 8m lake sediment core (16m=lake water is 8 m deep+lake sediment core will be 8 m long).

然后，木质钻芯平台需要被放置在两首气船上，平衡好后绑紧。同时钻芯钢棍需要被固定在钻芯平台的一端，一会儿一起被运到湖心去。这十根钢管连起来有16米，以帮助我们获取到长达8米的湖芯沉积物（因为湖水本身有8米深）。
